Facebook Launches 'Bots For Messenger'
Messenger Platform For Bots
Facebook announced at last week's F8 event that it is launching its Messenger Platform to enable businesses to create their own automated response tools to interact with customers in Messenger.
The video below shows a few examples of how Facebook sees the bots being used, from making a reservation to booking flights.
"We’re excited to introduce bots for the Messenger Platform. Bots can provide anything from automated subscription content like weather and traffic updates, to customized communications like receipts, shipping notifications, and live automated messages all by interacting directly with the people who want to get them."
With over 900m users, Facebook sees bots for messenger as a way for businesses to interact with people for customer service, ecommerce and more.
The Messenger's Send/Receive API will allow for the communication of images and "interactive rich bubbles containing multiple calls-to-action" as well as text.
The platform's discovery tools will allow businesses to build plugins for websites and prominent search capability.
With Messenger being by far the largest audience for these intelligent bots, their future applications seem far ranging provided users respond favourably to the interaction via the personal messaging service.
