This week's digital wrap covers Facebook's News Feed update, Twitter's Direct Message update and Google's Matched content for Adsense.

Google launches Matched content

Google has introduced a tool for Adsense publishers to promote content to website visitors.

Matched content, your visitors can: 

  • Discover relevant articles on your site
  • Spend more time on your pages
  • Engage more with your content

The new feature will help users to increase a website's page views and ad impressions in turn increasing ad revenue.

Facebook begin testing Hello for Messenger 

Facebook continues the development of it's Messenger platform with Hello, an app designed to show you info about who’s calling you, even if you don’t have that number saved in your phone. You will only see info that people have already shared with you on Facebook.

Twitter updates Direct Messages

Twitter has updated the Direct Messages function to make it easier for users to communicate one-to-one or in groups.  

Changes include:

  • A setting that allows you to receive Direct Messages from anyone, even if you don’t follow them. To change your settings follow these instructions.
  • Updated messaging rules so you can reply to anyone who sends you a Direct Message, regardless of whether or not that person follows you.
  • A new Direct Message button on profile pages on Android and iPhone. You’ll see it on the profiles of people you can send Direct Messages to.

Facebook Updates News Feed to Balance Content from Friends and Pages

Facebook has sought feedback from it's users to improve the content it delivers to the News Feed.  

 

The changes include:

  • removing the rule that prevents users seeing more than one post from the same source in a row.  
  • efforts to ensure that updates from close friends are higher up in the news feed.
  • pushing comments and likes by friends lower down the feed.

Semble sees the beginning of Mobile Pay in New Zealand

A few weeks back saw the launch of Semble, a partnership between ASB, Spark, 2Degrees and Paymark to allow payments direct from your mobile.

From ASB: "Semble is a collaboration between 2degrees, Spark, Vodafone and Paymark, that has created an innovative mobile wallet solution in the form of a mobile app. Initially you can use the app to make payments with your smartphone and ultimately, over time, it will look to progressively replace all of the cards in your physical wallet."
