Developing a Content Strategy

During the course we spoke about creating remarkable content to turn strangers into customers and then into promoters of your brand.

To help with your content creation here are some tips to get you started.

Know who you are creating for:

Creating a plan for your content is important to ensure you cover the relevant topics your personas have outlined.  Spend time brainstorming a list of your customers key areas of interest and develop lists of bite sized content within these to create blog posts from.  Consider what solutions your audience would be seeking to provide them with valuable information.

For instance, a boat retailers content plan could include the following:

Create a content calendar:

A content calendar that schedules your content will ensure you have consistently published content across your key content topics that you can then broadcast through your social and email channels.  By planning in advance content can be created without delays due to having to think of what to write about.

Your content calendar should also include sharing your content to your social channels and email database.

Test and Measure

Try out different things within your content mix to see what works and what doesn’t.  Include more of the types of what works and less of what doesn’t.  Measure your traffic using Google Analytics and social interactions with Facebook Insights and Twitter analytics to guide your future content creation.

Once you have a content plan in place you can develop your tactics to nuture your audience through the sales cycle.  More on that in the next tip.
