Weekly wrap: what’s hot in digital

This week we look at the rise of the tablet, Facebook’s column ads, and whether Google users know they are seeing pay-per-click ads when they use the search function. Here’s our top picks in digital this week:

Are people aware of Google’s pay-per-click ads?

That’s the question Econsultancy’s Dan Barker set out to answer in a survey of more than 2000 people.

Ten per cent of respondents said they’ve never seen an ad on Google, while a quarter (25 per cent) said they had seen them but never clicked one.

Mainstream tablets

Almost half (45 per cent) of adults in Great Britain now own a tablet, compared to 32 per cent a year ago, according to new data from Kantar.

The highest penetration is among 35-44’s where 58 per cent of adults now have at least one tablet in their home.

Presence of children is the strongest driver of this, with 69 per cent of parents of school-age children having a tablet at home. 

 

Interactions increase

Data from Socialbakers shows that brand interactions are consistently increasing on Facebook. Looking at interactions with three million of Facebook’s most popular pages, the data shows that since January 2014 interactions have risen 30 per cent.

 

Facebook’s latest

New column ads roll out that are ‘designed to give advertisers a more engaging creative canvas, while also offering a better experience for people on Facebook’. The new right-hand column ads started to go live this week.

New versions of Pages Manager for Mobile: The new versions for iOS and Android are ‘designed to make it easier for people to manage their pages on the go.’

Video visibility improves with the goal ‘to better understand what videos people are interested in watching, so that relevant videos appear more prominently in news feed.’
